Fire Horse – Rhiannon’s Ride

Description

This piece was created for the Welsh story of Rhiannon and Pwyll, but also corresponds with the 2026 Chinese New Year, the year of the fire horse.

In the image I wanted to invoke the energy of fire horse to depict Rhiannon’s chase across the land by Pwyll. Some legends say she could never be matched on horse back and only for love would she stop.

Pwyll then gave the lady chase –

No closer came he to her place;

Not close enough to see the face –

Of Rhiannon…

“Lady, wait for your true love’s sake!”

Then only now, the spell did break…

The lady stopped and spoke her part

“A spell was set to win your heart,

For I work in magick art” …
