This piece is a response to a recent pilgrimage I made to Ireland late this summer. For years I had been dreaming of a stone circle in the middle of a windswept wilderness, surrounded by water and mountains. Then a couple of years ago when I was researching for the Call of the Morrigan Oracle deck, I discovered they really existed and finally this year I was able to go and see them.

Tucked away on the borders of County Cork and County Kerry are the Stones of Uragh. They are a small circle of stones with one large upright and in the distance waterfalls cascade from the high hills into a lough and all around is wild heathland and forest. Nestled in this small circle of ancient stones I sat and quietly waited. It was here that The Morrigan came to me as seeress with her hand outstretched the all seeing eye unblinking in the centre.

Her hair writhed around her, constantly moving and changing, eels tangled amongst her braids, ravens perched everywhere, a blood full moon rose above the waterfalls, her words echoed across the lough and hills, both a remembering and a foretelling as she spoke her Prophecy.

“I will not see a world dear to me,

but I will hold fast against the storms,

I will hold space for those not strong enough to hold their own.

Past the destruction will come transformation,

We live on to create our fate”
